Football Coaching Qualifications

FTI Coaching Spanish coaching session

Within the United Kingdom the coaching system is run by the FA of each country, However each Football Association are all ruled by UEFA. Of whom are ruled by FIFA.

The coaching badges in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland are awarded by UEFA.
There are many levels within the coaching pyramid.

All coaches must start with the level 1 course which is a basic understanding of the game, been able to organise coaching areas, put on coaching drills, and be able to demonstrate simple techniques.

Level 2 is the next step up and looks more at small sided games of 8 vs 8 and a function. The function is a drill based exercise where the coach must be able to set up the area, give demonstrations, progress the function from the basic skills to a more game like scenario. The small sided game again tests the coaches ability to set up an area, explain what he is looking to coach and then having the ability to stop the sessions and coach when coaching is needed. On this course the coaches are taught how to coach and are expected to pass a practical exam as well as prove that they have gathered enough practical experience away from the course.

Level 3 UEFA B, this badge is for coaches that have good knowledge of the game and looks at functions, small sided games and phases of play within an 11 vs 11 match. The preparation for this exam is a week intensive course, learning from coach mentors who show the coaches how to put on each session and express what is expected from them. After the week intensive course the coaches are expected to go away for 3 – 6 months to gather practical experience working with older players and practice sessions they have been taught to coach. Along with the practical exam where the coach must deliver 2 sessions, to the high standard of the coach adjudicator.

UEFA A. This coaching badge is for coaches who have a great understanding of the game, All Managers and professional first team coaches should have this award as it deals with the finer points of coaching the beautiful game. On this course coaches are expected to do an intensive course to learn from coaching mentors, they must then go away and practice what they have learnt on the course. Like the other coaching awards they must have a final assessment along with proof of practice hours. If the level of the sessions are up to scratch they will be awarded with the UEFA A licence.

UEFA Pro licence. This award is for coaches wishing to work with the first team at a professional club. Like the other badges they are expected to learn from coach mentors, practice away from the course and then prove that they have learnt from the course as well as from experience that they deserve to pass the badge.

Summing up our 2013/14 season the guys had yet another fantastic season playing some real enterprising football, we got off on our usual slow start but ended the season with real momentum, unbeaten in the league in 2014 resulted in Garforth Rangers coming runners up in very competitive Division 1 league the lads were also involved in some great cups runs ending up with us picking up the Barkston Ash & Supplementary cups along with our second County cup semi-final appearance in as many years unfortunately going down to a narrow 3-2 defeat to the subsequent winners Moorends

After the season finished the boys enjoyedFC Barcelona stadium tour some richly deserved Spanish sunshine as we ventured on our eagerly anticipated tour, two years in the planning we fully funded a lads football trip of a lifetime to Barcelona & Salou, we played 3 Friendly games against local football teams Villa Seca / Salou & Cambrils winning all 3 games comfortable also received some glowing feedback from to owners of the Tour training sessionscomplex where the games were played saying that we should have been matched against some elite academies which was great feedback. We also visited the Nou camp stadium in Barcelona which is Brilliant venue, visited a water park great fun seeing the dads screaming on the slides and the accommodation was at the edge of Salou in an amazing complex called Cambrils Park which was a stones through away from the state of the art football complex

Football Matches Abroad

Arranging Football Matches Abroad

Ghana U20s travelled to Barcelona for a pre tournament training camp, FTI Sports Tours arranged a friendly match Vs FC Barcelona academy played at FC Barcelonas training ground.

Ghana U20s travelled to Barcelona for a pre tournament training camp, FTI Sports Tours arranged a friendly match Vs FC Barcelona academy played at FC Barcelonas training ground.

Having worked in the tours business for over four years now FTI have had to organise matches in many countries across Europe. Arranging matches for elite teams against professional clubs can be quite easy. This is because most professional clubs are interested in testing their players against quality opposition from different countries and backgrounds.

Teams from different parts of Europe are coached differently and have alternative training methods. The academies of teams such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax and many of the other large teams across Europe have their youth teams in training up to 4 or 5 times a week. A lot of English professional clubs only have their players in at a young age 2 to 3 times a week. This is many peoples opinion is why the English International team is so far behind the other European countries.

Gold Coast Knights from Australia recently visited Cardiff City's training ground to play against their academy

The best way to test youth player’s ability is to play them against elite teams from other countries. These players have been coached to play in a different way and having seen many games between English Youth teams against European opposition, the foreign opposition seem to come out on top more often. The English teams seem to take the more physical side of the game looking to get stuck in and compete well. The foreign teams look to play more football, looking to keep possession and be patient to create opportunities, they are able to do this because they are technically better with the ball, this is including their touch as well as been comfortable on the ball when dribbling and passing.

Frienldy match Vs academy opposition

When arranging matches for elite teams the main aim in my opinion is to find quality playing facilities, again in the likes of Holland and Spain these are more readily available; most facilities in England suffer due to adverse weather conditions. A good quality playing surface is important when plotting two elite professional teams against each other. The next part is to ensure you have quality officials. When organising younger teams matches you can often get away with 1 official as referee and have a representative from each team to run the line. Try to ensure the match is set up well in advance so it gives both teams plenty of time to organise players etc.

Spanish Coaching

Spanish coach travels to England to work with local clubs and schools.

Spanish coaching

On March the 10th 2014 Albert Vilnas a top Catalan coach from Barcelona visited the UK in partnership with Football Tours International to deliver some training sessions with football clubs and schools that are connected with FTI.

Albert was in the UK for 3 nights and visited three junior football clubs, three high schools and One college ranging between Reading, Bristol, Leicester and Leeds. Alberts plan was to pass on the Spanish philosophy of football where the number one aspect of playing football is the ball.

Spanish coaching session Spanish coaching session

Albert told the groups that who ever had control of the ball for the longest period of the match would normally create more chances on goal therefore winning the game. The training sessions worked on a number of small drills working with the ball looking at control, gaining space and possession as a team.

Each group that worked with Albert found the sessions a great experience and different to what they would normally do in their training sessions.

Spanish coaching sessions

Football Tours International used Alberts sessions to make contact with a number of schools and clubs to let them know about the tours and coaching opportunities they offer throughout Europe and world wide.

For more information on how your club can receive coaching from Albert and other Spanish coaches please contact FTI Sports Tours today
